The Practice
A Hatha-style yoga unlike any you've experienced before. Svaroopa® — meaning "the bliss of your own being" — works from the inside out, releasing the deepest tensions in your spine and opening you to your own true nature.
Overview
Svaroopa® Yoga is a Hatha-style yoga that is unlike any yoga you have experienced before. The word Svaroopa® means "the bliss of your own being" — an invitation to experience your practice in more than one way.
Just as we can see reflections of an object in water, so our mind and body can reflect each other in consciousness and awareness. Svaroopa® provides the setting for your body and mind to experience profound openings that complement each other as you progress.
Svaroopa® is for all body types and all ages. You will meet your own body exactly where it is — and people of all ages take advantage of this healing style of yoga.
"The bliss of your own being" — a call to experience yoga in body, mind, and consciousness simultaneously.
01 — Foundation
The tailbone affects the alignment of the whole spine. A misaligned tailbone — caused by weak, tight muscles in the pelvic floor — creates an imbalance throughout the entire body.
A misaligned tailbone can:
This is why Svaroopa® yoga begins with poses to help realign your tailbone, then moves to poses that open and lengthen the muscles along your entire spine — eliminating both mental and physical stress, while providing new paths of muscle memory to keep your core open and your body free of pain.
Every Svaroopa® class begins at the foundation — the sacrum and tailbone — and works its way up through the entire spine.
"It all starts at the tailbone — poses begin here and move through spinal openings that lengthen the muscles in the deepest part of your body."— Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati, Founder of Svaroopa® Yoga
02 — The Method
What makes Svaroopa® different from other styles of yoga is its use of precise alignment and full support in every pose. When your body is completely supported, your deepest muscles can finally surrender — and real release happens.
Each pose uses specific alignment cues that target the deep core muscles of the spine — not just the surface muscles other styles address.
Blankets, bolsters, and blocks allow your body to fully settle into each pose — no effort, no straining — so the spine can open from within.
This Core Opening relieves constriction of muscles and nerves of the spine, promoting spinal lengthening and relieving compression of spinal vertebrae.
03 — Private Sessions
In addition to group classes, Jiva offers private one-on-one therapy sessions at her Fort Collins home studio. Each therapy is a certified Svaroopa® discipline — deeply personal, deeply effective.
A one-on-one, hands-on healing modality where Jiva facilitates muscular release, healing, and conscious awareness for her client. Using specific hand placements and body perception, she assists in alleviating pain at its source.
A single Embodyment® session facilitates the Core Opening equivalent to 5 or 6 yoga classes. Students often use these sessions during a healing process, then graduate to regular Svaroopa® yoga classes — or use them to deepen an ongoing practice.
Sessions are one hour. Contact Jiva to schedule.
Sometimes called "Embodyment® for the mind." Vichara is a form of self-inquiry and discovery where clients explore their own reactions to life's conditions — and ultimately resolve the negative ones.
Vichara doesn't just change thinking — it changes the actual structure of the mind, which has a profound effect on the body as well. Most clients find it helps them discover their own answers, moving them toward greater awareness and consciousness.
Sessions are one hour. Contact Jiva to schedule.
Specialized poses, propping, and variations for students who are ill, recovering from injury, or navigating the effects of age and genetics. This therapy can be offered in either a classroom or private session setting.
Because Svaroopa® is so deeply restorative, clients who begin with Adaptive Yoga often go on to doing things in life they never thought they could do again. Some begin here and gradually move into continuing-level yoga classes.
Sessions are one hour. Available in group or private settings. Contact Jiva to schedule.
Whether you're new to yoga, healing from pain, or seeking something deeper — Jiva's classes and private sessions are open to all bodies and all levels.
