Props &
Preparation

Svaroopa® yoga is built on support. Props are not a shortcut — they are the practice itself.

Unlike styles of yoga where props are optional aids, in Svaroopa® they are essential to achieving the precise spinal alignments that make this practice so effective. Every pose is designed to be fully supported so that the body can completely let go.

You don't need to purchase anything special to begin — most props can be substituted with household items. Jiva will guide you in class on exactly how to use and position everything.

Folded Blankets

The primary prop in Svaroopa®. Firm, densely folded blankets are placed under specific parts of the body to provide the precise support each pose requires. Bring 2–4 to class.

Bolster

A firm, cylindrical or rectangular bolster supports the full length of the spine in restorative poses. A rolled blanket or firm pillow can substitute at home.

Yoga Mat

A standard non-slip mat provides a clean, cushioned surface. Because many Svaroopa® poses are done lying down, any mat will do — thickness is not critical.

Eye Pillow

A small weighted eye pillow deepens relaxation in Savasana by gently blocking light and providing a grounding sensation. Optional, but lovely.

Yoga Strap

Used occasionally to help maintain alignment and extend reach in certain poses. A bathrobe belt or long scarf works perfectly as a substitute.
